London’s Top Asian Restaurants Offer Best Dishes And Kits For Nationwide Delivery

Food & Drink

As Covid-19 restrictions continue, more restaurants are pivoting their businesses to offer nationwide home delivery of complete meals or components in a meal kit. From Pad Thai and butter chicken to spicy Sichuan dishes, here are some of the best home delivery restaurant meals and kits from London’s top Asian restaurants.

Alta Foods, dishes for two from £9.50 (£30 minimum order)

With clever packaging and superior products, Alta Foods is one of the best new foodie brands to launch during the global pandemic. Alta Foods (alternative Asian) aims to offer more unusual and authentic Asian dishes than the standard takeaway. The new business is a partnership with popular Asian restaurants like Dumplings Legend, Goldfish, Lang Kwai Fong and Atcha. The restaurants deliver their best, freshly made dishes to the kitchens at Alta Foods where they are flash frozen (without added preservatives) in sealed pouches to ensure ultimate freshness and distributed to a growing network of fans across the UK. All products use a nine-layer pouch which is made from nylon which not only means that it is free of the chemical preservative BPA (Bisphenol A) often used in commercial food products but it also acts as an exceptional barrier preventing any air or inert gasses from contaminating the contents. Unlike takeaways, designed to be eaten on the day you order them, dishes from Alta are designed to be consumed whenever you want. You either put in your freezer to cook later or simply drop the frozen, sealed bags into boiling water for 20 minutes. The result is a meal equal to any you’d be served at your favorite Asian restaurant.

Founder of Alta Foods, Lucas Leong, created the company to provide an alternative to the blandness and lack of imagination often found in Asian takeaway or supermarket ready meals. And he’s clearly succeeded by offering excellent dishes from his partner restaurants like Hong Kong curry beef brisket, Mongolian pork ribs and spicy Kung Pao chicken. The vegetarian selection is great too, with popular dishes including a classic Sichuan dish featuring aubergine braised for 24 hours in garlic, chilli and stir fried with ginger.

Darjeeling Express – Chicken or vegan meal kits £60

Asma Khan, Chef and Owner of the successful Darjeeling Express and the first British Chef to be featured on Netflix’s Chef’s Table, launched her new restaurant in London’s Covent Garden in December. With the subsequent London lockdown, Chef Khan and her all female team have had to quickly pivot to a home delivery service. The restaurant is offering two fabulous meal kits that include all the spices you will need, pre-measured dry ingredients and easy to follow recipe cards. The kits don’t include fresh produce, so you will just need to purchase meat and vegetables to complete the recipes. The two kits, which will feed four, are Methi Chicken with cashew nut and cranberry pulao, Kashmiri chilli apple chutney with walnuts or the vegan kit which substitutes Kala Channa (Black Nutty Chickpeas) for the chicken.

Rosa’s Thai Cafe, Pad Thai kits for four £40

Another lockdown foodie gem is from one of the nation’s most popular Thai restaurants. Rosa’s Thai Cafe launched a meal kit that features founder Saiphin Moore’s signature Pad Thai. Since opening her first restaurant in London’s Brick Lane in 2008, Chef Moore has launched 20 other restaurants in London, Liverpool, Leeds and Manchester. In addition to Pad Thai, green curry kits are also available for home delivery every Friday. Both dishes are satisfyingly authentic and recreate the cosy Rosa’s cafe experience at home.

Restokit, meal kits for two from £36

Rather than delivering hot food, which can compromise the quality, new delivery platform Restokit delivers cold meals, ready for assembly and finishing at home.
