“Virgin!” the cry goes up, and hundreds of heads with a combined age of thousands of years swivel (slowly) to eyeball the interloper.

“Who’s this, trip-trapping across our gangway?” they seem to say. The answer is that it’s me, being welcomed on-board my very first cruise. I am indeed a cruise ship virgin, and Saga is popping my cherry.

“The Voyage of the Damned”, “HMS Cocoon”, “The Curse of the Black Pearl (and Twinset)” – idle name calling often cast in the direction of the Saga ships and their cargo of holidaying pensioners. Officially, anyone over 50 can join the party but, realistically, the majority of the clientele…
