With dozens of properties dotting the California landscape—from Calistoga in the north to American Canyon in the south—Napa Valley offers an abundance of choices when it comes to luxury hotels. Best of all, many are near wine-tasting rooms in addition to offering easy access to the roads leading to the vineyards on both sides of Route 29.
Here are some of the best hotels in Napa Valley:
North Block Hotel
North Block Hotel, located in the walkable village of Yountville and close to a number of wine-tasting rooms, is hip and modern yet unpretentious. The property has 20 rooms, each with balconies or patios circling around a richly landscaped courtyard. Guest rooms are invitingly furnished with contemporary décor and plush bedding, and the on-site restaurant, Redd Wood (with chef Richard Reddington at the helm), befits the hotel’s casual but sophisticated style.
Las Alcobas
Las Alcobas is another great choice for food and wine lovers. Located adjacent to the Beringer vineyard and close to the Greystone campus of the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in St. Helena, most of the 68 rooms and suites have terraces with vineyard views; some have firepits and/or soaking tubs. The on-site restaurant, Acacia House, is located in a stately 1907 Georgian-style farmhouse with the kitchen in the creative hands of Top Chef alum, Chris Cosentino. Guests can choose to luxuriate on lounges beside the cabana-lined outdoor pool, enjoy the spa lodged in a contemporary farmhouse or work off some of that good wine in the fitness center.
Bardessono
Bardessono offers a contemporary take on wine country hospitality. Think green luxury—a mix of sustainability, mindfulness and elegance. This boutique, LEED Platinum Certified property, located in downtown Yountville, has 62 rooms with organic linens, towels and cleaning products, all designed to transform these spaces into personal spa environments. The menu at Lucy’s restaurant also emphasizes sustainable, organic farm-to-table foods. The resort has plans to unveil The Maple Grove Villas in fall 2019 for an even more secluded, bespoke guest experience.
Hotel Yountville
This romantic spa resort has 80 dreamy rooms and suites, all with four-poster beds and sunken tubs. In-room refreshment cabinets are stocked with complimentary, local-sourced fruit and nut mixes, granola squares and caramel macchiato almonds. The hotel is home to Heritage Oak, an inviting farm-to-table restaurant, and is also within walking distances of the restaurants in shops in downtown Yountville (including Thomas Keller’s iconic French Laundry). The hotel features a beautiful pool courtyard with its own bar and a sumptuous spa.
Archer Hotel Napa
This luxury boutique hotel sits in the downtown city of Napa. The contemporary rooms are decorated in soothing colors and evoke a sophisticated urban vibe. Many of the rooms offer private balconies. The destination rooftop bar, Sky & Vine, offers panoramic views of the valley amidst a relaxed setting with potted olive trees and topiary sculptures. Chef Charlie Palmer oversees the dining experience at the hotel’s American-style steakhouse with menus inspired by the surrounding agricultural and viticultural riches of the valley. The hotel offers easy access to more than 20 nearby wine-tasting rooms.
Embassy Suites Napa Valley Hotel
Although this Embassy Suites property is located in the heart of Napa city, it offers the ambiance of a resort because it’s enveloped by 7 acres of landscaped grounds. A relaxing place to bring families and groups—who will appreciate the complimentary made-to-order breakfasts and complimentary wine receptions each evening—it’s also pet-friendly. There’s an indoor pool, outdoor pool with hot tub, fitness center, and a garden patio for pure relaxation.
