Since 2003, Pendleton Whisky has offered whisky lovers a delicious spirit that also celebrates rodeo and western tradition. The original whisky has, in the past 20 years, been joined by Pendleton Midnight, a portion of which is aged for six years in American brandy barrels; Pendleton 1910 Rye, made entirely from rye and aged for 12 years; and Pendleton Whisky Directors’ Reserve, a premium version of the original whisky that has been aged for 20 years.
Although the line-up of spirits is named after and honors the Pendleton Round-Up, one of oldest and most prestigious rodeos in the world, the spirit is distilled in Canada, aged, then cut with glacier-fed water from Oregon’s Mt. Hood.
1910 Bourbon Celebrates The Western Lifestyle
But for the first time in Pendleton’s 20-year history, a new American-distilled bourbon is being added to the portfolio. “Bourbon sales have grown 50% over the last five years, providing Pendleton Whisky with a tremendous growth opportunity in the category,” said Lander Otegui, senior vice president of marketing of Proximo Spirits, which owns the Pendleton Whisky brand, via email. “Pendleton Whisky’s existing consumer base and aspirational growth consumers seek different flavors and experiences but rally behind the same desire from their choice of whisky brand, which is one that reflects their western lifestyle heritage and work ethic.”
“Pendleton 1910 Bourbon is a 10-year-old bourbon that is intended for use in classic bourbon cocktails like the Old Fashioned or the Cowboy Gold Rush,” said Otegui. “The rich and bold flavor profile and higher proof liquid of Pendleton 1910 Bourbon add to the range of whisky offerings delivered by a brand people love and trust.” 1910 Bourbon is aged in white American oak and cut to 90 proof (45% ABV) using, like all Pendleton whisky, glacier-fed water from Mt. Hood.
How 1910 Bourbon Was Developed
“We went through several rounds of sampling to find the right bold and robust flavor profile Pendleton Whisky fans were attracted to and found that in this 10 Year Old Bourbon,” said Matt Klette, head of advocacy, whiskey at Proximo Spirits, via email.
“Pendleton Whisky fans will appreciate the connection to our brand heritage with Pendleton 1910 Bourbon’s ornate bottle that resembles the leather craftmanship of a prize saddle, paying homage to our western lifestyle roots,” said Klette. “This 10-Year-Old liquid provides a rich and bold flavor profile, adding variety to the range of whisky offerings from Pendleton Whisky. Bourbon fans will appreciate the 10-year age statement and 90 proof, making it a great bourbon to enjoy neat, on the rocks, or in a classic bourbon cocktail.”
