Beau Joie Brut Rose Champagne (Epernay) NV. This wine arrives in a rose-gold copper-clad bottle, kind of like its own suit of armor. Indeed, the cutting-edge, high-designed bottle is said to be inspired by the armor worn by the knights that protected the kingdom of France and also the copper rooftops of Paris. Produced by Bertrand Senecourt, it’s one in a line of fancily packaged bottles (see this one, a special cuvee encrusted in 10,000 beads and jewels).
White flowers and yeasty aromas give a hint of the refinement to come in this nonvintage Champagne. An equal blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, this is a structured sparkler with plenty of fruit, acid and fizz on the palate. The red fruits are delicate but focused: fresh strawberry, raspberry and cherry. Accompanied by lively acid and a smooth small-pearl fizz. This is a stunner with Imperia caviar. Very balanced, it’s a happy wine to please anyone and a stunner of a package to bring to a party. The metal cladding is hand made from second-generation recycled material and can keep the wine chill for up to two hours without an ice bucket. But you’ll probably finish it before then. 12%, zero dosage, but not austere. Prices vary, so shop around, $90-$130.
