Located on Ekkamai Soi 12, which is also known as Soi Charoen Chai, there’s a Thai chicken noodle street food cart, which is set up on a bicycle, that serves up some delicious bowls of chicken noodles. The stall gets very busy, and when I walked up, I had to wait in line for a few minutes to order. I ordered the full option, the special size with an extra piece of chicken and an egg in the mix (ก๋วยเตี๋ยวไก่เส้นเล็กพิเศษเพิ่มไข่). You can then grab some sweet basil and some raw slices of bitter melon, which were hanging from the power pole, and from the neighbors fence.
After getting my bowl of Thai chicken noodles, I sat down at one of the tables, and then garnished with some vinegar, some crushed peanuts, and finally a few scoops of chili flakes for extra flavor and some serious heat. I also like to add a bunch of raw bitter melon to my noodles, and finally top it off with some sweet basil to contrast all the flavors and for a delicious refreshing touch.
The Thai chicken noodles at Kuay Teow Gai Khlang Soi Charoen Chai (ร้านก๋วยเตี๋ยวไก่กลางซอยเจริญใจ) were delicious – my kind of Thai street food – great atmosphere, friendly service, good food. You can find bowls of chicken noodles very similar to this all over Bangkok, but this particular place is right on Ekkamai Soi 12 in Bangkok.
