A snippet from the feature:
‘In the lakeside town of Santiago Atitlán, women sit companionably on their narrow stoops, fingers flying across looms fashioned from simple sticks. In the centre of town, men in traditional striped trousers crowd at the entrance to a shrine to the hard-drinking, cigar-smoking local idol called Maximón, holding offerings of flowers, trinkets and bottles of a pink liqueur called Quetzalteca.’
