No One is Safe From GIANT Spinning Saw Blade | Making Monsters | Travel Channel

Videos
Ed and the Distortions team have a lot of fun projects going on, keeping Ed and Marsha inspired and upbeat, but the pressure is on everyone to impress their returning clients. Ben and Bill, the owners and pro-haunting friends from Netherworld in Atlanta have come up with a really scary and creative way to frighten their customers; they just need the help of Distortions to bring it to life! The idea is a giant five-foot shock-tronic saw blade that will spin towards haunt patrons as it’s “severing” an actor in half, squirting blood in all directions and cutting into the aisle-way where the customers are walking! This build will be difficult and challenging in that the saw blade may come in contact with customers, and therefore must be safe for all ages without causing injury. Mike, the Distortions’ welding pro, will have his hands full not only keeping the concept safe, but also staying within very specific dimension requirements. Last year Travel Channel hosted a “Make My Monster” contest where hundreds of fans sent in monster creations they designed in hopes of being chosen to come out to Greeley, CO to have Ed and the Distortions gang actually “make their monster!” The lucky winner is a Making Monsters fan, Jarrod Bivens. To help bring this simple, 2-dimensional drawing to life, sculptor extraordinaire, Jordu Schell, has once again been flown in from Los Angeles. Jarrod shyly watches Jordu and the team build his monster from scratch, turning it into an imaginative final product that delivers WAY beyond his wildest dreams. Jarrod leaves with a truly unique and one-of-a-kind monster masterpiece. Another returning client to Distortions is Jeff from Owen Trailers. Owen Trailers is a large company that builds mobile haunted “dark rides” for carnivals nationwide. They have another order for 8 animatronics that will be repurposed by Distortions for a newly refurbished “Haunted Mansion” ride. Each monster in this order needs to be customized to make them the perfect size, shape and theme to fit inside the portable ride. Ed and Marsha are especially excited about this order because after a decade of building these monsters, it will be the first time they will be able to see the ‘dark rides’ in action with their own eyes when they travel to the headquarters in Riverside, CA.

Making Monsters is a fascinating look at the world of animatronics and mask makers. Ed Edmunds and his small staff work tirelessly to create some of the scariest animatronics and “frightronics” the haunt industry has ever seen.
