Father’s Day Gift Guide: Rosé Wines

A lot of the promotions for Father’s Day wines are big, bold and, or course, very red. But not all dads like those kinds of wine. . Instead, some dads prefer pink, especially on a hot summer day or with a barbecue, two occurrences that often coincide with Father’s Day. Here’s a roundup of great rosés to toast your dad.

DAOU 2021 Rosé, $24

Winemaker Daniel Daou, who co-founded the vineyard with his brother Georges, works in their Paso Robles winery with his three daughters, Katherine, Lizzy and Anna Gabrielle. Made from Grenache grapes in the Provençale style, this rosé features a pale flamingo-pink color with aromas of peaches, hibiscus and hyacinth.

Biltmore Reserve Rosé North Carolina 2020, $25

This lovely rosé is fermented from grapes grown almost exclusively on the eponymous estate in Ashville, N.C. Honoring the man himself, George Vanderbuilt, this wine echoes his legacy as a family man and host with the most, as he threw some of the best parties with the best wines on his estate.

Whispering Angel Rosé, $25

Sacha Lichine, winemaker, is considered a visionary when it comes to rosé. Lichine, who is a father of three children, is fathering in the footsteps of his father, Alexis Lichine, who was a legendary winemaker and author. If your dad’s a legend, then you might want to gift him this Côtes de Provence rosé, which boasts of red berry notes and spice.

Colab + Bloom Rosé, $20

This Australian rosé isn’t your typical pink wine. Made from a 50-50 blend of Tempranillo and Grenache grapes, this rosé is bright and bold yet approachable. Its spice and red currant aromas make it perfect for a Father’s Day cookout.

Clif Family Winery 2021 Rosé of Cabernet Franc, $34

The Rosé of Cabernet Franc is one of the first two releases from Clif Family Winery’s new, organic farm and CCOF-certified Value di Sotto vineyard in Napa Valley’s Oak Knoll District. If you’re serving grilled salmon, roasted veggies or chicken, this wine will add the right touch to your Father’s Day barbecue. Another good choice from Clif is a lovely Grenache Rosé, too.

Barton & Gustier Côtes de Provence Tourmaline, $17.99

Grown in the heart of Provence, on the foothills of the Massif des Maures, the terroir for Tourmaline brings a rather unique mineralogy to the wine. Refreshing and dry, this wine brings fruit and floral aromas to the table.

Fresh Vine Vintage 2021 Rosé, $15.89

This Napa Valley vintage presses whole clusters of Pinot Grigio and Pinot Noir grapes and then ages them tougher in stainless steel. With a delicate shade of blush, this wine offers rose petal, peach and ruby red grapefruit aromas.

Listel PET NAT Rosé, $17.99

This lovely rosé hails from Southern French. A rich blend of Semillon and Carignan grapes, the PET NAT is refreshing without any additions of sugar, sulfites or preservatives, and it’s also vegan-friendly. Listen also makes the lovely Grain de Gris rosé, too.

Kendall-Jackson 2021 Vintner’s Reserve Rosé, $17

If your papa loves a plate of charcuterie, then Kendall-Jackson 2021 Vintner’s Reserve Rosé would be a great wine to pair. With aromas of watermelon and apricot, this wine lends itself to cured meats, making it a Father’s Day match.

Ferrari Rosé, $34.99

If your dad likes a bit of bubbly with his rosé, a lovely choice would be the Ferrari Rosé, produced by the Lunelli family in Trento. This Italian rosé hails from the Trento region, and it boasts notes of wild strawberries and just a touch of almond aromas. If you’re grilling some seafood to celebrate Father’s Day, then this wine will pair perfectly with your meal.

Veuve du Vernay Ice Rosé, $14.99

If your dad has a slightly sweeter palate, then he’ll love this festive demi-sec bubbly. Lively and fruity, with lots of raspberry aromas, this French wine plays well with food and cocktails.
