The best Dublin airport hotels, including free parking and 24-hour shuttle buses

Advice

These are unusual times, and the state of affairs can change quickly. Please check the latest travel guidance before making your journey. Our writers visited these hotels pre-pandemic.

Dublin Airport lies 14 km (nine miles) north of Dublin city centre but, unusually for a European capital, there’s no rail or tram link from the airport to the city, and taxis are expensive – budget €25-€30 (£21-£26) for the ride. Happily, several excellent coach services operate: the big blue Aircoach (aircoach.ie) offers a reliable service to central Dublin, departure points directly outside both terminal buildings, and reasonable fares (tickets from €7/£6). For the ultimate convenience, see our pick of the best Dublin Airport hotels for comfortable rooms, grab-and-go breakfasts, boarding pass printing services, walkable terminal distances, and easy parking, whether you’re starting or ending a Dublin trip, or have an early or late flight to catch. All offer free shuttles to the terminal buildings, too.

Maldron Hotel Dublin Airport

Dublin, Ireland

8
Telegraph expert rating

This is the original Dublin Airport hotel, six miles north of Dublin city centre, and still the closest to both terminals (it’s a two-minute walk to Terminal 2; a five-minute walk to Terminal 1). It offers smart accommodation in 250 rooms, clean-lined and uncluttered public areas, and a pleasantly gregarious air which sets it apart from the more clinical hotels near Dublin Airport. There are computers for self check-in and printing boarding passes, plus airport screens are located in the lobby. ‘Breakfast to go’ is a useful touch – hang your order on your door the night before, and your light breakfast-in-a-bag will be ready when you leave to catch your early flight. Ample parking is available, as well as a 24-hour shuttle service to the terminal buildings.

Carlton Hotel Dublin Airport

Dublin, Ireland

8
Telegraph expert rating

This smart, modern, glossy and well-situated four-star hotel is family-owned and hands-on – and it shows, with snappy, friendly service and plenty of information on local attractions. Both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 are a few minutes away by shuttle bus (runs every 30 minutes), and Dublin city centre is 20 minutes away by taxi. Interiors are thoroughly modern, with bright colours and large windows, dramatic chandeliers and smoothly tiled floors. Rooms are flooded with light and in general a cut above the dour airport hotels of days gone by. There’s a small exercise room, but if you need a pool and larger gym, the hotel offers discounted admission to a gym two minutes’ walk away. Parking is free on the first night.

Radisson Blu Hotel, Dublin Airport

Dublin, Ireland

8
Telegraph expert rating

The Dublin Airport branch of Radisson offers space, relaxation, a child-friendly vibe, and the tried-and-tested guarantees of a familiar hotel brand – all within easy walking distance of the terminal buildings (four minutes to Terminal 2; seven minutes to Terminal 1). Or hop aboard one of the 24-hour hotel shuttle buses. There’s also no shortage of local information, all published as dinky, easy-to-manage tourist packs; computers and printers are available for guests to check into flights; and there’s plenty of parking. Check out the rather unexpected hotel garden, which is good for the children and features a heather garden and a gazebo; lovely on a fine day.

Clayton Hotel Dublin Airport

Dublin, Ireland

8
Telegraph expert rating

Smart, well priced and situated a short drive of Dublin Airport, Clayton Dublin Airport is a distinct cut above the anodyne airport hotels of the past – and a great base pre-departure or after touchdown. The hotel isn’t directly served by public transport (or walkable): instead, plan on using the excellent 24-hour courtesy bus which connects to both terminals. Service is fast, friendly and impressive, and the hotel is well plugged into the local area, with a good deal of information available on sights, attractions and connections. The property isn’t on the airport flight path – but note that sound-proofing is in any case excellent. Ample underground and surface parking is available and there’s a small gym on site.
