Purejuana Makes Creating Your Own Cannabis Cocktails Easy

Food & Drink

Depending on where you live, you might have seen a cannabis cocktail or two show up on the menu at your local bar. They’re typically low-dose, and use infused spirits or simple syrups to give them their buzz. Today Lively Spirits is releasing a product that takes things a bit further, purejuana, a product the company claims is “America’s first dry spirit brand.”

It’s essentially a soluble powder you use instead of liquor in a drink . You can drink it “neat” by just dissolving it into some seltzer or soda, or take it to the next level by adding it to a nitric cocktail. The onset times and duration of effects are pretty comparable to what you get from a single-serving of liquor.

Unlike some other products that are nondescript hybrid strains, it’s also sold with very specific strain names — such as Venom OG and Super Lemon Haze — so you can fine-tune the experience to you.

“We always knew that if you could drink cannabis and have it behave like alcohol that it would be the Holy Grail of cannabis products. We were fortunate to have stumbled on some tech as well had some complimentary tech to make this possible,” Matthew Cohen, CEO of Lively Spirits tells me.

“My value set has always been about products that really present the purest expression of the plant. When we realized, that not only did the onset and offset behave like alcohol, and that we were able to preserve the aroma and taste of the cultivar, but that we were able to bring the effects of the cultivar to the beverage, that this was really an extremely versatile non-alcoholic spirit and our focus should be on building the cannabis cocktail community.”

Packets of the product come in 1.5mg, 5mg, and 10mg doses and in one of five different strains: Blue Dream, Purple Punch, Super Lemon Laze, Venom OG, and XJ13. The vegan product is also produced from 100% fresh, flash-frozen and dried organic cannabis flower to retain strain-specific flavors, aroma, and psychoactive effects.

“Because we could deliver the essence of the cultivar, we leveraged our cultivation backgrounds to find the strains that had unique flavors/tastes, that our farmers grew well and that we predicted would have the most interesting effects,” says Cohen.

“We also tried to work with strains that customers were already familiar with. We are working on more exotic varietals as well that we believe will deliver even more unique effects. Currently our culitivar mix allows for Energetic to Calming and everything in the middle. We felt that buy offering this variety that we could address each user type and more occasions. We are very passionate about cannabis and purejuana so it has been very difficult to limit our strains available as there is truly so much to explore, but we can’t make it so there are too many choices.”

Cohen says that the company plans to release additional limited offerings of the product as well in addition to its core lineup.

Right now purejuana is available exclusively in California at select dispensaries in Northern and Southern California. There’s also an e-commerce option for delivery in Los Angeles and LA counties.

Pricing varies, but starts at around $3 for an individual 10mg shotpack to $23 for a pack of 10, 10mg shotpacks
