Uber Eats, Off The Menu along with a huge lineup of your favorite stars including Matthew McConaughey, Paris Hilton and many more are teaming up with chefs across the U.S. and Canada for the ultimate burger showdown. The competition kicks off this week on May 28th, in honor of National Burger Day.
As soon as it all starts, customers will be able to order the celebrities’ mouth-watering custom burgers — which they created with the notable chefs — in cities such as New York, Toronto, Atlanta, Miami and several others. Once you give the limited edition recipes in your area a try, you can show your city some love by voting on the delicious meals designed by the duo representing your hometown. This initiative encourages people to stay in and safe, while indulging in one-of-a-kind meals and supporting the company’s COVID-19 relief efforts along the way.
“We are so excited to bring the world’s largest virtual burger competition to life to celebrate National Burger Day,” Lawrence Longo, Founder & CEO at Off The Menu, told Forbes. “We paired some of the most well-known burger lovers with Uber Eats’ local favorites to create their ultimate burger — and we can’t wait for everyone to enjoy them! We also hope everyone will help us in our efforts to support Frontline Foods, who are feeding our heroes on the frontlines as well as provide some additional awareness for our restaurant partners whose businesses have been impacted by the pandemic.”
Scroll through below for the complete lineup being announced today, exclusively on Forbes. For a closer look at how the virtual burger making process went down, we also chatted with Aaron Franklin, co-owner of Austin’s Loro, who teamed up with McConaughey for the special “And” burger.
Isis Briones: First of all, what’s the most important part of a good and juicy burger?
Aaron Franklin: “The quality of the patty. The quality of the meat and how well it’s cooked (or not overcooked).
IB: What would you say was the best part about working with Matthew McConaughey?
AF: “What’s not to like? The guy is responsible for delivering one of Austin’s most iconic quotable lines of all time. ‘Alright. Alright. Alright.’”
IB: How has Uber Eats helped your restaurant during this pandemic?
AF: “We’re always looking for ways to make it easier for our guests, certainly getting our food delivered while people quarantine has been key. It couldn’t have been done without Uber Eats.”
IB: With states opening back up, what are some measures your team is taking to ensure your customers’ safety?
AF: “We took a very measured approach in deciding to reopen. There are many considerations, of course, our guest’s safety, and the safety of our staff and our broader community. Our service style is very communal. We’ve implemented all Texas Health Standards for Reopening and have taken measures even beyond those. For instance, plexiglass was installed at the order counter and between booths, face coverings are required both for our staff and guests; contactless payment and menu options have been implemented, we’re asking our guests to utilize a waitlist system even before coming to the restaurant; we’re adhering to social distancing, and there’s so much more which you can find listed on our website.”
IB: Lastly, for those who decide to visit the restaurant again, what’s a staple menu item they can’t miss?
AF: “Chicken Karaage and the Brisket (after 5 pm). These are perfect items to pick up for a picnic. My family has been enjoying it curbside during this pandemic.”
