Nearly everyone with even a passing interest in food has heard of Noma, the near-mythical Copenhagen restaurant from chef Rene Redzepi whose “New Nordic” cuisine helped wake the world up to just how delicious things could get in Scandinavia. But you don’t have to go have a 20-course meal at Noma to eat very well in the Danish capital – the place is positively booming with all kinds of great food to discover.
If you’ve been eyeing up a Copenhagen trip and weren’t sure where to start when it comes to eating, consider the Copenhagen Cooking & Food Festival, held this year from August 28 to September 1. It’s a five-day celebration that brings together the best of Copenhagen’s dining scene and food culture and turns it all into a great big party. Proceedings include “dining experiences, talks, live podcasts, music and much more.”
Some of the more intriguing events planned are the “Cooking X” sessions, where you can, as the organizers put it, “discover and explore all aspects of the universe of food through film, sound and performances.” Sessions include “Morning Yoga & Porridge” and “Create Your Own Danish Hot Dog.” Many of the festival’s events are held in English, and each of the festival days this year is dedicated to one of the UN Global Goals. How can you say no to all of that?
And if you can’t make it to the festival but want to get inspired about the broader world of Nordic cuisine, this book full of tasty recipes and lovely photos is a great place to start.
