You might be disappointed to learn that the name of this small coastal Devon village actually originates from the Old English word ‘beare’ or ‘bearu’, meaning woodland or grove, rather than a glass of the frothy stuff. But never fear, a trip here won’t be a disappointment. 

But if the streets don’t flow with beer, why should I go?

There are plenty of reasons to visit this idyllic seaside fishing hub. Often listed as one of the UK’s prettiest coastal villages, Beer more than lives up to its reputation. 

Set upon Lyme Bay in the Jurassic Coast Unesco World Heritage Site, the beach is the most obvious (and most popular) attraction here. But don’t expect to be plunging your toes into sandy shores….
